- EcoVadis awards Silver medal to Weener Plastics
- Ratings improved across all categories
- Overall score close to Gold rating
- Weener Plastics ranks in the top 7% for its Industry
Weener Plastics (WP) has been awarded a 'Silver' rating by EcoVadis, leading international provider of universal sustainability ratings with a special focus on sustainable supplier management. WP improved its score on all four Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) themes once again - Environment, Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement - bringing the company into the top 7% of EcoVadis-rated companies in the 'Manufacture of Plastic Products' industry. This leap forward brings us closer to reaching our next target: Gold recognition level.
"We are pleased that our efforts and initiatives have been acknowledged in the EcoVadis sustainability assessment," says CEO Adrian Whitfield. "Sustainability is one of our most important strategic pillars and firmly anchored in every business process. We invite all our stakeholders to join us in supporting the transition towards a circular economy."
Sustainable developments
Key sustainable packaging requirements, such as recyclability, lightweight and mono-materials or green materials, are a prerequisite for WP's Innovation & Development department. Earlier this year, WP launched several sustainable innovations. The 100% recyclable valve for dispensing closures was a groundbreaking success. Many national and international brands adopted this novel product to make their packaging sustainable. A lightweight roll-on deodorant packaging, called SealPack, is another impactful development.
Responsible operations
In addition, WP's manufacturing sites have their unabated focus on sustainability and eco-efficient operations. Three sites received the ISCC Plus mass balance certification. This means these sites can offer their customers high-performance plastics made from renewable attributed raw materials in the same high quality as fossil-based plastics. Like the ISCC Plus accreditation, ISO14001 is being rolled out to other facilities. Topics such as reducing greenhouse gasses, reducing energy and water usage, and preventing pollution are essential to WP's policies and activities.
In 2020 WP became a Signatory partner of the UN Global Compact, a United Nations initiative to encourage companies worldwide to implement universal sustainability principles and socially responsible policies. WP's progress on its Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility targets and ambitions are communicated to stakeholders in WP's annual report.
