On September 25, 2015, the UN launched the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): seventeen goals that lay out a path to realizing an inclusive, fair and sustainable society by 2030. Over the past six years, excellent results have been achieved. However, a great deal still needs to be done in the remaining nine years.
The SDGs are part of the UN Global Compact, of which WP has now become a signatory partner. This underlines the importance we attach to human rights and our commitment to making the UN Global Compact and its principles part of our company's strategy, culture and day-to-day operations. With this in mind, WP organizes a variety of activities, ranging from a program communicating our Corporate Employee values, to events interacting with local communities.
Gabriele Beckmann, member of the Weener group Executive Management Team, stated "For WP management, it is vital to explicitly state we endorse the UN Global Compact and are committed to supporting our plants' engagement with local communities."
By raising the SDG flag on 24 and 25th September, organizations, municipalities, companies, civil society, schools and government demonstrated their participation in this SDG-related global movement. WP was proud and delighted to take part in this initiative.
On the morning of the 24th, Gabriele Beckmann and Esther van Workum, Group HR Director, presented the SDG flag to Wilbert Doornenbal, WP Ede Plant Manager. Jointly, they raised the flag.
Ester van Workum comments: "WP is committed to promoting equality of opportunity for each employee and applicant. We aim to create a working environment in which every individual can apply their skills in the best way possible."
Wilbert Doornenbal adds: "The SDGs help our highly committed and dedicated team focus attention on these topics, within and outside the company, and integrate them in our daily operations."
